Abstract

The skin is the largest organ in the physical structure of the human body, which makes its assessment extremely important in detecting possible injuries. Pressure injury (PPI) is the term used to define injuries characterized as damage caused to the skin due to the compression of bone prominences, most of the time, for a period of time, added to other risk factors that may be intrinsic or extrinsic. LPP are considered a major challenge for nurses and a preventable adverse event, through prevention and early detection of the first signs, with their incidence considered an indicator of poor quality of care. The present study aimed to develop an educational folder on prevention measures for caregivers and/or family members of patients at risk of pressure injuries. The method used was methodological research, carried out using materials available in electronic format, national literature, from the last 5 years, on patient safety at risk of PI, with an emphasis on preventive measures, using the following descriptors: pressure injury; prevention; nursing; caregivers. The folder was written in a simple way, with attractive illustrations and clear communication, in line with the theme covered and focus on the target audience. The result obtained was the creation of educational material, in the format of a folder aimed at family members/caregivers of patients at risk of developing LPP. In conclusion, caring for patients at risk of developing LPP is a major challenge and health education is the best form of prevention.
