Entre “figuras austeras” e “espíritos de sacrifício”: manifestações nazi-fascistas em jornais de Ribeirão Preto/SP na década de 1930
Abstract
This article seeks to analyze various manifestations (veiled and/or effusive) of support for Nazi-fascism, present in newspapers published in the city of Ribeirão Preto (São Paulo), throughout the 1930s. To do so, we focus on the aspects theoretical-conceptual aspects of fascism, articulating them to the material reality formed by more comprehensive conjunctures (crossed by the European revolutions, the Italian Risorgimento and the consequent peninsular emigration waves) and more restricted (impacted by the arrival of Italian immigrants to Ribeirão Preto, city efforts in favor of “modernization” and the consequent emergence of local journalistic devices). From such articulations, we seek to uncover in the sources (extractable from editions of the printed matter “Diário da Manhã”, “A Tarde” and “Diário de Notícias”) expressions of praise for the leaders Hitler and Mussolini, praise for theoretical-economic principles and undertakings Nazi-fascists, apologies for xenophobia and anti-Semitism, as well as publicity of Nazi-fascist demonstrations in the city of Ribeirão Preto.
