Radiological aspects of a spontaneous pneumomediastinum associated with SARS-CoV2 infection: a case report
Abstract
Since it emerged, COVID-19 has caused major public health problems, causing a disease with different characteristics that still have not been fully elucidated. The aim of this study was to demonstrate a case of spontaneous pneumomediastinum associated with SARS-Cov2 infection and try to understand it based on what has been described in the literature. As a methodology, data from the previous clinical, evolutionary and radiological history of a patient infected with the SarsCov-2 virus who evolved to pneumomediastinum was analyzed, as well as a survey of data from scientific articles extracted from platforms such as PubMed, Scielo, EBSCO, ELSEVIER, Europe PMC and WHO. In the case above, the patient had Spontaneous Pneumomediastinum due to the infection and had a favorable evolution, without the need for vasoactive drugs and mechanical ventilation; this seems to be related to alveolar rupture and air content leakage, although its pathophysiological mechanism is unknown. Thus, it is seen that this disease generates different manifestations and, also because it is still recent, studies are needed to better elucidate its mechanisms and characteristics.
