Abstract

It is very common for professors of health sciences to be relocated from their classrooms to management positions. The way this happens, however, seems to be more intuitive and improvised than rational and structured. The intent of this design is to stratify the feelings of these professors-managers, in a reflection about their perceptions of comfort and frustrations of the new role within University education. A survey was carried out using an electronic form with health sciences professors who had entered managerial positions in higher education institutions. The questions encompassed aspects related to the characterization of the educator and the concerns surrounding the migration strategies from teaching to management positions. In the sample of 16 respondents to the survey, we found an average of 43 years old who occupy positions of direction, coordination (of course, evaluation processes, products and area) management (of teaching and educational products) and digital operations planning. We found highly educated professors who understand that their decision-making power can greatly impact students. Teachers migrate to management positions in order to advance their careers. Although there are some challenges encountered, such as the increase in working hours and the pressure for quick resolution of demands, the transition does not cause surprises. Managers have greater flexibility in working hours and feel gratified to be able to produce institutional changes that generate innovation and development.
